MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2006
Dear Lois,

We are at a critical crossroads and we need your help.

This legislation to protect prayer in our U.S. military will be in front of the Senate this week.

It is imperative that we legally preserve the rights of our military chaplains to pray according to their faith.

Right now, I am also asking for your financial support as we send a strong message to our Senate encouraging them to quickly pass legislation that guarantees the right of chaplains to pray as their conscience dictates.

It is now or never - so please give a secure online gift today to help us defend our military chaplains' right to pray in Jesus' name.

Our military chaplains have served our country faithfully.  Some have been wounded or even given their lives praying over fallen soldiers on the battlefield.

From the Revolutionary War to the Vietnam War, our U.S. military chaplains have never been prevented from praying according to their faith for our men and women in uniform.

Our soldiers - who would die protecting our nation - deserve our gratitude, our support, and our prayers.

It is time to fight for them.  The Senate will vote this week, and we must ensure that the rights of our military chaplains are not compromised!

The Senate's proposal contains language about sensitivity and tolerance - which in essence says don't pray in Jesus' name.

This issue is "live," meaning we only have a couple of days to get it resolved.  Your decision to take a stand in this matter will make a difference!

I urge you to lend your full support to the legal protection of our chaplains' right to pray according to their faith by giving an immediate online gift.

The opposition - like Americans United for Separation of Church and State - strives to censor the prayers of chaplains in their ministry to our servicemen and women.

This is an outrage!  And yet it is an all-too-real possibility unless Congress passes legislation to protect our chaplains from these restrictions.

We have created an impact through our petition campaign, but now we need the financial support to back us up.

Please respond now with a generous tax-deductible gift in support of the ACLJ to further this vital effort to stop the homogenization of prayer for our military chaplains.

I'm personally leading a team of top ACLJ attorneys and specialists on this almost around the clock.  Our entire senior Government Affairs team, as well as senior lawyers, were working on this throughout the weekend and will not stop until the vote takes place.

We must take full advantage of the opportunity we have before us and win this battle.  It is not just about chaplains - it is about freedom of speech and the right to pray as we believe!

This issue is top priority:  we must STOP the censorship!  The future of our military chaplains' right to pray freely still hangs in the balance.  Give your online gift to stand with the ACLJ TODAY.

Do not delay ... the time to act is now.  Thank you!
